Microsoft Lens (formerly Microsoft Office Lens) is a free optical character recognition (OCR) app that allows users to scan written and printed text from material such as images, documents, receipts, notes, whiteboards, and business cards and convert the text to digital media. Microsoft Lens is available on Android and iOS.
Microsoft Lens captures, trims, and enhances written and printed media and converts the images to PDF, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Excel files and can save to Microsoft OneNote, Microsoft OneDrive, or a local device. The app can enhance small text for better legibility, and its whiteboard functionality adjusts images to minimize glare or shadows on the surface of a whiteboard, blackboard, or sketch to improve readability. Microsoft Lens can also extract information from business cards and add it to both Microsoft OneNote and contacts in English, German, Spanish, and simplified Chinese.
Microsoft Lens was first launched as "Office Lens" for the Windows Phone on March 17, 2014, and was released for Android and iOS the following year on April 2, 2015. On February 1, 2021, Microsoft announced it was changing the name of the app to Microsoft Lens.
