Mikhail Sholokhov (1905-1984) was a Russian writer, novelist, screenwriter, poet, journalist, and politician. He was born in Vyoshenskaya in the Russian Empire, which later became the Soviet Union. He is best known for his work on the Don Cossacks.

Sholokhov wrote in various genres, including short stories, sketch stories, and novels. His most notable works were "And Quiet Flows the Don", "The New Land", and "Fate of a Man" (short story).

In his career, Sholokhov received numerous awards, including the 1965 Nobel Prize in Literature, Lenin Prize, and Stalin Prize. He also authored several other works, such as "Virgin Soil Upturned", "They Fought for Their Country", "At the Bidding of the Heart", and "The Science of Hatred". Mikhail Sholokhov passed away in Vyoshenskaya, Russia, in 1984.
