Mike Winston, CFA is the founder and Managing Principal of Sutton View, an employee-owned
hedge fund sponsor and advisor. Sutton View was founded in 2012 and focuses on event-driven and intrinsic value investing in both liquid and illiquid asset classes. The firm co-led successful activist litigation against the board of Dole Foods in its management-led buyout and obtained a 35% increase in total consideration on behalf of all shareholders. Sutton View has advised one or more of the largest academic endowments in the world, and Mr. Winston has appeared on CNBC and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal.
Prior to Sutton View, Mr. Winston worked as a portfolio manager at Millennium Partners LP where for five years he and a colleague managed a $1bn merger arbitrage and event-driven capital allocation. Mr. Winston received an MBA in Finance and Real Estate from Columbia Business School in 2005, and a BA in Economics from Cornell University in 1999. At Columbia, he completed the school’s program in Value Investing. While at Cornell he studied for a year at the London School of Economics and twice won the Eastern US division for policy debate. He began his career in 1999 with Credit Suisse First Boston. Mr. Winston is a CFA Charter Holder, and a member of the Economic Club of New York.
