Michael Sars (1805-1869) was a Norwegian priest, professor, and biologist born in Bergen. He studied at Bergen Cathedral School and later attended the University of Oslo. Sars held Norwegian citizenship and died in Norway.
Throughout his diverse career, Michael Sars was known for his work in biology, as well as his roles as a priest and professor. Sars had three children: Georg Ossian Sars, a marine biologist; Ernst Sars, a historian; and Eva Nansen, a singer and wife of explorer Fridtjof Nansen.
