Merlene Ottey

Merlene Joyce Ottey (born October 10, 1960) is a Jamaican-Slovenian former track and field sprinter. She was born in Hanover Parish, Jamaica, to parents Joan Ottey and Cold Spring. Ottey has both Jamaican and Slovenian citizenships, as well as previously having the citizenship of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. She is known by the alias Merlene Ottey-Page.

Ottey was educated at the Mount and Pondside Schools in Jamaica and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the United States. She has received various awards and medals throughout her career, including Olympic, World Championships, World Indoor Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Pan American Games medals.
