Lev Pontryagin (1908-1988) was a mathematician from the Soviet Union. Born in Moscow, Russian Empire which later became part of the Soviet Union, he spent his entire life in Moscow, where he eventually passed away. Pontryagin attended Moscow State University for his education. During his studies, he was under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Pavel Alexandrov.
