Kotlin is a cross-platform, open-source programming language developed by JetBrains and open source contributors. Kotlin is developed to be fully inter-operable with JAVA. It is statically typed, a general-purpose programming language with type inference. Kotlin was developed in-house by JetBrains since 2010 and became open-source in 2012. On a Google I/O event in May 2019, Google announced Kotlin would be a preferred language for Android app development.
