Kasym Khan was a prominent Kazakh statesman. His reign was the heyday of the Kazakh state. He did much for its formation and development and managed to avoid power struggles and internecine strife.
Historians do not know the exact date of birth of Kasym Khan. Scientists suppose that he was born between 1445 and 1455. The boy was a son of the founder of the Kazakh khanate Zhanibek.
If you trace the genealogy of this family, you can find family ties with the great Genghis Khan. Unfortunately, the ruler's childhood and adolescent years are shrouded in mystery. He was first mentioned in 1470. The Kazakh chronicler Kadyrgali Zhalairi mentioned Kasym as the most famous son of Zhanibek in his works. The annals say that the surrounding Ulayats were subordinated to him and that he took over the administration of his father's ulus.
