Jiang Jin is a district located inside one of the largest cities in China, Chongqing. It is located in the southwest part of the city along the Yangtze River, making it an important port district. There are 1.5 million people that live in Jiang Jin, which is approximately 1,242 square miles in area.
The history of Jiang Jin dates back more than 1,500 years ago. It was established in the southern Qi Dynasty in 487 AD.Within the district, there are five ancient towns that range from a few hundred years old to over 1,000 years old:
These towns have architecture and infrastructure, such as roads made of stone, that are indicators that they are full of history. There are also historical tea houses, Buddhist temples, and structures built into cliffs in these ancient towns.
Jiang Jin is surrounded by mountains and other natural landscapes that are popular among tourists and locals alike. Shimian Mountain is a popular site to explore with its forests and waterfalls.
There is also a site called Aiqing Tianti, which means "Chinese Love Ladder," and it is a mountain path of 6,000 steps for people to climb the mountain. It gets its name because the steps were constructed by Liu Guojiang, a local to Jiang Jin. He constructed the path for the person he was in love with, Xu Chaoqing. Due to an age difference of ten years and the fact that Chaoqing is a widow, the couple faced criticism for being together, so Guojiang built the path to their home on the mountain so they can live in peace. It has become a popular tourist attraction due to its love story.
