After being released by Sheffield on Wednesday at the age of 16, Wardy began his older career at Stocksbridge Park Steels, breaking into the first team in 2007 and spending three seasons there, before joining the club of the Northern Premier League of FC Halifax Town in 2010. Scoring 25 goals in his debut season, he won the Player of the Year club award, and then moved to Conference Premier Fleetwood Town in August 2011 for an unsolved fee. He scored 31 goals in his first team in his new team, winning the Player of the Year team award when they won the division.
