Indium (chemical symbol - In, from Lat. Indium) is a chemical element of the 13th group (according to the outdated classification - the third group of the main subgroup, IIIA), the fifth period of the periodic system of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev, with atomic number 49.

A simple substance indium is a malleable, low-melting, very soft post-transition metal of silvery-white color. It is similar in chemical properties to aluminum and gallium, in appearance to zinc.
