The Great Firewall of China is the term coined by western media to refer to the combination of evolving tools, services, and rules the Chinese government uses to block specific internet content within China's borders.
Users in China got access to the internet in 1994. By 1997, the Ministry of Public Security issued a series of laws to censor it and prohibited users from distributing information that could cause resistance, reveal state secrets, or show content related to pornography, murder, gambling, violence, or activities that affect network security. In 1998, the ruling party, Chinese Communist Party (CCP), officially launched the GFW project.
