Predictions process

Gold Derby brings together award predictions from leading experts at Variety, Deadline, USA Today, IMDb, Associated Press, Entertainment Weekly, Huffington post, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, IndieWire, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter and other major magazine and website. Since 2011, the site has been engaging users to make their own predictions in order to achieve greater prediction accuracy. Each group of predictions is associated with a different score, associated according to the accuracy of the predictions made in previous years.

Gold Derby Film Awards

The Gold Derby Film Awards were first established in 2002, to recognise the best motion pictures and animated films of the year. From 2002 to 2010 the voting process was conducted via secret ballot through Gold Derby message boards. Since 2011 the nominees are chosen by Gold Derby's registered users, editors and experts on the platform, establishing an initial ballot in the twenty-two categories for the awards. Winners were subsequently decided by votes, picking one winner from each award category, out of Best Picture whitch has also two runner-up sections.

At the end of each decade, the Gold Derby Decade Film Awards are held in recognition of the best cinematographic projects of the decade.

The website began giving out their own awards, the Gold Derby Awards, for film and television in 2003, and for music in 2021. In 2015, the website was acquired by Penske Media Corporation (PMC).
