Giovanni Verga (31 August 1840 - 27 January 1922) was an Italian writer, screenwriter, photographer, and politician. Born and died in Catania, he was educated at the University of Catania. Verga was a citizen of the Kingdom of Italy.
As an author, he worked in the novel genre, and some of his notable works include "I Malavoglia," "Rosso Malpelo," and "Mastro-don Gesualdo".
