George Porter (born December 6, 1920, in Stainforth, South Yorkshire; died August 31, 2002, in Canterbury) was a British chemist and politician, known for his work in diverse fields of the sciences. He was a citizen of the United Kingdom and lived there.

Porter received his education at a variety of institutions, including Trinity Academy in Thorne, University of Leeds, Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and the University of Cambridge. During his academic career, he was advised by Ronald George Wreyford Norrish, and he later mentored doctoral student James Robert Durrant.

In 1967, George Porter was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to commemorate his various achievements and contributions to the scientific community.
