Gareth Southgate, born on September 3, 1970, in Watford, is a former football player and current football manager. He is a citizen of the United Kingdom and has played as a central defender for various clubs. Southgate has been with the England squad as a manager since 2013. He was educated at Croydon College, Hazelwick School, and Pound Hill Junior School.
Southgate's achievements as a player include winning the First Division with Crystal Palace in 1993/94, the Football League Cup with Aston Villa in 1995/96, and the Football League Cup with Middlesbrough in 2003/04, as well as being a UEFA Cup finalist in 2005/06. He was also a semi-finalist of the European Championship with the England team in 1996 and was named English Premier League Player of the Month in January 2000.
As a head coach, Southgate led the England national team (under 21) to win the Toulon Tournament in 2016. He guided the England team to fourth place at the World Championship in 2018, third place in the UEFA Nations League in 2019, and as a runner-up in the European Football Championship in 2020.
Southgate is also known by the nickname "Nord".
