- The Early Years
From the age of 12 Frank Juarez wandered through various orphanages and teenage help centers, and once even ended up in jail. Eventually, at age 21, he was adopted by Bob Shamrock, who dealt with troubled teens. Later, following Ken, Frank changed his last name to Shamrock as a sign of respect for his guardian.

In 1994, Ken began coaching Frank in submission wrestling. Frank accompanied his brother to his UFC fights and developed a love for mixed martial arts.
Shamrock made his professional ring debut on December 16, 1994, in the first-round bout of "King of Pankration" against the future UFC champion Bass Rutten. The 10-minute bout ended with a decision in favor of Shamrock. In his next fight, Frank lost to Manabu Yamada
