Florence Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo-Jo, was born on December 21, 1959, in Los Angeles. She was an American track and field athlete and held American citizenship. Griffith Joyner studied at California State University, Northridge and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles.
During her career as an athlete, Florence Griffith Joyner was in a partnership with Greg Foster (hurdler). She was the daughter of Mary Ruth Joyner. Her official name was Florence Delorez Griffith Joyner.
Griffith Joyner received numerous awards, including the Olympic Games Gold medal for the 100 meters in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Other awards include United Press International Athlete of the Year in 1988 and Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year in 1988. She was also awarded the L'Équipe Champion of Champions in 1988.
Florence Griffith Joyner passed away on September 21, 1998, in Mission Viejo, California.
