Feng was a multimedia streaming server for the real-time streaming of multimedia content over the Internet. The server implemented Real-Time Streaming Protocol (rfc2326) and RTP/RTCP Real-Time Transport Protocol/RTP Control Protocol (rfc3550). It also supported the RTP Profile for audio and video conferences (rfc3551) and was compliant with IETF's standards.
Feng was a part of the LScube project and was supported by the Internet Media Group at the Politecnico di Torino. It was released under the LGPL v2.1. The server's major features were the container support, seeking capabilities also utilized internally for the compositor metademuxer, as well as the modular structure aimed at streamlining the extension of codec and protocol support.
Feng's container layer provided an infrastructure that enabled customized stream management. Feng was tested via the addition of a resource by putting it in the feng root (usually /var/feng/avroot or /srv/feng/avroot/. Users could change it in the configuration file and run feng from the command line. By default, the server listened for incoming rtsp connection on the port 554, matching the requested resources if available.
