Erwin Neher (born March 20, 1944) is a German chemist. He was born in Landsberg am Lech, which was part of Nazi Germany at the time of his birth. Later, Neher held German citizenship.
Neher received his education at several universities. He studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of Göttingen, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and Technical University of Munich. Neher's work as a chemist has earned him recognition, most notably the 1991 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Currently, Neher resides in Germany.
