Erving Goffman (11 June 1922 - 19 November 1982) was a Canadian and United States citizen born in Mannville, Alberta. He studied at the University of Toronto and passed away in Philadelphia. Goffman was the founder of the American Association for the Abolition of Involuntary Mental Hospitalization and is considered an individual in the field of sociology. Eviatar Zerubavel was one of his doctoral students.
