Ernst Mach (February 18, 1838 - February 19, 1916) was an Austrian physicist, philosopher, professor, photographer, and politician. Born in Brno, Austria-Hungary (now in the Czech Republic), Mach held citizenship in Austria-Hungary. He was educated at the University of Vienna.
Mach's doctoral advisor was Andreas von Ettingshausen, and he had several doctoral students, including František Koláček, Heinrich Gomperz, Stanislaus von Prowazek, and Ottokar Tumlirz. He was of Austrian nationality.
Ernst Mach passed away in Vaterstetten, now in Germany, on February 19, 1916, one day after his 78th birthday.
