Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (born 9 June 1836 in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets) was a physician and politician from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. She is recognized as the first woman to gain a medical qualification in Britain and as a founder of the London School of Medicine for Women. Anderson's father was Newson Garrett, and one of her children was Louisa Garrett Anderson.
During her lifetime, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was educated at Middlesex Hospital and the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. She passed away on 17 December 1917 in Aldeburgh.
