He was educated at the Saint-Joseph Institute. In 1951 he moved to Paris, where he graduated from the École de la rue Blanche. He made his debut on the stage of the National People's Theater in the early 1950s. Played under the direction of Jean Vilar. Later he performed at the Théâtre l'Odéon. He acted in films and on television in the 1960s-1980s.
He has about 80 plays and about seventy films and television films to his credit.
In recent years, he suffered from diabetes, he had to have his legs amputated. Died from a complication of diabetes.
