Derek Alton Walcott (23 January 1930 - 17 March 2017) was a Saint Lucian and British citizen born in Castries, Saint Lucia. He was a poet, playwright, writer, and author. Derek Walcott was educated at the University of the West Indies and the University of London. He is best known for his notable work, Omeros. Walcott received the 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature and passed away in Saint Lucia.
