The Chicago Smash is a World TeamTennis (WTT) franchise founded in 2020. The team is WTT's ninth team in the league. They play all home games at Credit Union 1 Arena at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Chicago Smash was the third expansion team in the league, following the Orlando Storm and Vegas Rollers in the 2019 season.
World TeamTennis is a mixed-gender professional tennis league played with a team format in the United States and was founded in 1973. The league has seen some of the most famous names in tennis, including Billie Jean King, John McEnroe, Venus and Serena Williams, and Sloane Stephens.
Jocelyn Davie is the team's General Manager, who previously launched the WTT's expansion team in Orlando, Florida, the Orlando Storm, and Kamau Murray was appointed the team's head coach, coach of the 2017 US Open Champion, Sloane Stephens. The team's colors are "Chicago Blue and Smash Red."
Chicago Smash opened their inaugural season during the league's forty-fifth season on July 13, 2020, against the Springfield Lasers of Springfield, Missouri. They played their first home game the following evening against the Lasers.
