Barbara Cartland, whose birth name was Mary Barbara Hamilton Cartland, was an English author born on July 9, 1901, in Edgbaston. She was a prolific writer primarily known for her romance novels and wrote under various pseudonyms, including Marcus Belfry, Barbara McCorquodale, and her own name Barbara Cartland. Cartland was also a politician, aircraft pilot, and novelist.
Some of her notable works include 'Love on the Run', 'A Hazard of Hearts', and 'Love Is Dangerous'. She held British nationality and was educated at Malvern St James and The Alice Ottley School.
Barbara Cartland was the founder of the Romantic Novelists' Association and had a daughter named Raine Spencer, Countess Spencer. She passed away on May 21, 2000, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
