Adolf Windaus (born December 25, 1876, in Berlin, Germany) was a chemist primarily focused on organic chemistry. He received his education at the University of Freiburg, Humboldt University of Berlin, and Französisches Gymnasium Berlin. Windaus was a German national and mainly worked in Germany throughout his career.
Under the guidance of doctoral advisor Heinrich Kiliani, Adolf Windaus completed his studies and went on to become a highly influential chemist. He mentored doctoral students, including Adolf Butenandt and Erhard Fernholz.
Windaus' work in chemistry earned him the 1928 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He continued to work in his field until his death on June 9, 1959, in Göttingen, Germany.
