There are several versions of the appearance of this seasoning. According to the most common - adjika appeared thanks to shepherds. In spring, they went to the mountains to graze sheep, and the owners of the animals gave them a mixture of salt and pepper to feed cattle. Salt caused thirst in sheep - they began to drink and eat more, thereby gaining weight faster. Pepper was added to the mixture so that the apiaries did not steal salt (at that time it was a very valuable product). However, resourceful people were able to find a way out of the situation: they used the mixture as a seasoning, adding spices and spicy herbs to it. That's how adjika appeared.
