History of FEBS Journal

The FEBS Journal started life in 1906 as the Germanlanguage journal Biochemische Zeitschrift. In April 1966, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies, the German Gesellschaft fur Biologische Chemie and the publisher Springer-Verlag reached an agreement wherein FEBS would continue publishing Biochemische Zeitschrift under a different name: European Journal of Biochemistry. The editorial board, helmed by Editor-in-Chief Claude Liebecq, first convened in Heidelberg in July 1966, the first submission was received in September 1966, and the first issue of European Journal of Biochemistry appeared on 1 March 1967. In 2005, European Journal of Biochemistry was renamed The FEBS Journal.
