The Symptothermal Fertility Recognition Method (STMRP) is a method of natural family planning. The symptothermal method combines the temperature, calendar and cervical method (Billings method) for determining fertility, due to which it differs from the above methods in greater accuracy and reliability. The greater efficiency of this method of family planning is ensured by reducing errors in the measurements of individual parameters and analyzing these signs in the aggregate.
A woman has the ability to conceive during a certain period of the menstrual cycle. The fertile period (when conception is possible) includes several days before and after ovulation. On average, ovulation occurs on the fourteenth day of the menstrual cycle (with a 28-day cycle), but each woman has individual characteristics of its course. To compile the most complete picture of the menstrual cycle, several indicators are observed at once:
- basal body temperature
- cervical mucus
- change in the position of the cervix, the degree of its openness and softness
- Physiological indicators of ovulation.
The results of observations are entered in a table, according to which the boundaries of the fertile period of the cycle are determined. At this time, you should refrain from sexual intercourse when postponing pregnancy. For women who want to conceive a child, it is also recommended to use the symptothermal method in order to determine the most favorable days for this cycle.

Efficiency
The Pearl Index (probability of unplanned conception) with the correct use of the method is 0.3. This means that when using the method to delay conception for 1 year, 3 out of 1000 couples have an unplanned pregnancy. Such a result is achieved only with the correct understanding and observance of the rules for using the method.
Features of the application of the method
Observations require about 10 minutes a day.
For the successful application of the method, it is important to understand the physiological processes.
Daily observations contribute to the development of self-discipline.
The need to refrain from intercourse during the fetal period when postponing conception.
