Saul Niguez Esclapez, known as Saul, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays either in central midfield or in defense for Atlético Madrid and the Spanish national team. After joining Atlético Madrid's youth academy, he made over 300 appearances for the club. In the 2013-14 season he was loaned to Rayo Vallecano also in La Liga. Representing Spain at various youth levels, Saul helped the under-21s to a runner-up finish at the 2017 European Championships, finishing as the tournament's top scorer. He was selected by the senior levels to compete in the 2018 World Cup
