Origin

Saraswati is mentioned in the Rigveda, and three hymns are dedicated to her as the goddess of the great river. In the Vedic period she is revered as a purifier, protector and healer. There is a legend of how she, together with the celestial healers Ashvins, heals Indra, who has lost his strength.
