Rainer Werner Fassbinder (born May 31, 1945 in Bad Wörishofen; died June 10, 1982 in Munich) was a German filmmaker, actor, playwright, theatre director, composer, editor, and essayist. He is linked to the New German Cinema movement. He was married to Ingrid Caven.
Fassbinder held various occupations throughout his career, including screenwriter, playwright, film director, actor, television director, cinematographer, film producer, author, theatre director, composer, editor, and essayist. He used the pseudonym Franz Walsch during his career.
Fassbinder directed numerous films, including Lili Marleen, This Night, Love Is Colder Than Death, Katzelmacher, Gods of the Plague, and Why Does Herr R. Run Amok?. He was also the director of the miniseries, Berlin Alexanderplatz.
Some of his other directorial works include The American Soldier, Beware of a Holy Whore, The Merchant of Four Seasons, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, and The Tenderness of Wolves. Fassbinder also directed World on a Wire, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, Fox and His Friends, Mother Küsters' Trip to Heaven, Shadow of Angels, I Only Want You to Love Me, Satan's Brew, Chinese Roulette, Germany in Autumn, In a Year of 13 Moons, The Marriage of Maria Braun, Veronika Voss, Querelle, and Kamikaze 1989.
