PRISMASATE Dialysate Solution is a sterile, bicarbonate-based formula that is intended to be used for patients with acute kidney disease who are using continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT) for treatment. It is manufactured and sold by Baxter International. The formula is sold in a solution bag and can be purchased individually or in a two-pack. There are six different PRISMASATE Dialysate Solutions, including some with calcium and others that are calcium-free.
In addition to being used for CRRT, PRISMASATE Dialysate Solution may also be used in case of drug poisoning with dialyzable or filterable substances. The goal of using the solution is to normalize the composition of the blood in patients on CRRT. The solution bag in which it comes was specially designed for ease-of-use for medical professionals with a press seal at the top of the bag, which makes for easier mixing and enhanced labeling to facilitate with identifying the contents of the bag. There is also a luer lock that helps to prevent leaks while making connections.
