Miracle Fruit, also known as Synsepalum dulcificum, is a fruit native to West Africa and some other regions of tropical Africa. This fruit is famous for its ability to change the perception of taste, making sour and bitter foods seem sweet.

The fruit itself is not very sweet, but inside contains a special protein compound that binds to taste receptors on the tongue, causing them to perceive sour and bitter tastes as sweet. The effect lasts about 30-60 minutes.

Miracle Fruit has become popular as an alternative remedy for people who want to reduce their intake of sugar or other sugary additives. It can also be used to prepare dishes with a lower sugar content, or to mask sour flavors, such as those found in sour fruits, wine, and wine vinegars.

Miracle Fruit can be consumed fresh, but is most commonly sold as a tablet, powder, or syrup that can be taken before meals to change the taste experience.
