Max von Laue was born on October 9, 1879, in Koblenz, Germany. He was a German physicist known for his work in X-ray diffraction. Laue held citizenship in Germany and studied at various prestigious institutions, including the University of Göttingen, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Zurich, and the University of Strasbourg.
Laue's academic discipline was physics, and he received guidance from his doctoral advisor Max Planck. Among the students he supervised during his career were Leo Szilard, Max Kohler, Karl-Otto Kiepenheuer, and Friedrich Beck.
Max von Laue received the 1914 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the diffraction of X-rays by crystals. He passed away on April 24, 1960, in West Berlin, Germany.
