Introduction

The Jungfraujoch railway station is the highest railway station in the world at an altitude of 3,454m and is popular with day tourists, who wish to get to the top without the challenging conditions awaiting alpine climbers. The accessibility has allowed thousands of tourists to reach the Sphinx Observatory, one of the highest altitude astronomical observatories in the world at 3,572m.
Naming
Jungfrau literally translated means 'young woman' in German.
