Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996) was a Russian author, dramaturge, playwright, writer, poet, essayist, translator, and lecturer. He was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Brodsky was educated at Annenschule and Clare Hall, Cambridge. He passed away in Brooklyn on January 28, 1996.

Brodsky is best known for his works in poetry and essays. His notable works include "Gorbunov and Gorchakov," "A Part of Speech," "To Urania," "Less Than One," "Marble," and "Watermark".

In 1987, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Brodsky also received the Struga Poetry Evenings. Joseph Brodsky had three children: Andrey Basmanov, Anastasia Kuznetsova, and Anna Brodskaya. He was in a partnership with Marina Basmanova.
