Ivan III - was the Grand Prince of Moscow, who united a significant number of lands around Moscow. The wise politician ruled the state for 43 years (1462-1505) and made an invaluable contribution to the development of the Russian state.
The parents of the prince were Maria Yaroslavovna and Prince Vasily II Vasilyevich. The future Ivan the Great was born in January 1440 and became the eldest son in the family. Initially the boy was named Timothy in honor of the saint whose feast was celebrated on the day of the boy's birth, but later on in his baptism he received the name John in honor of John Chrysostom honored by his parents.
