Friedrich Ratzel (1844-1904) was a German biologist and geographer known for his work in human geography and for influencing the field. Ratzel was born on August 30, 1844, in Karlsruhe, located in the Electorate of Baden. Ratzel attended Heidelberg University where he pursued his education.
