Farkas Bolyai (born 9 February 1775 in Sibiu, Austrian Empire) was a mathematician, poet, astronomer, and inventor. Farkas Bolyai studied at the University of Göttingen, where his doctoral advisor was Abraham Gotthelf Kästner. He had one child, János Bolyai, who also became a mathematician and was his doctoral student.

Farkas Bolyai died on 20 November 1856 in Târgu Mureș.
