Appearance

Maximum body length with tail up to 40 cm (although usually about 14 cm). The physique is quite dense. Color from brown to gray, on the back and sides of many white spots, often with black border.

Distribution and place of habitat

It is found in the deserts in the south-west of the United States and in the surrounding areas of Mexico. Adapted for life in hot and dry biotopes.

Nutrition

Desert iguanas are vegetarians like their other large congeners and eat all kinds of colorful fruits, flowers, and vegetables. Feed mainly vegetable food, but can eat insects, as well as small lizards in addition to the plants that make up its main diet. The blunt-shaped head is well equipped with the same blunt teeth, with which the desert iguana can pinch itself.
