Funding Round attributes
Codecrafters, a startup aiming to challenge experienced developers with complex, hands-on coding projects, has successfully raised $1.8 million in a seed funding round. The round includes investments from prominent figures such as Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, Dropbox co-founder Arash Ferdowsi, and other notable names like Supabase CEO Paul Copplestone and BaseCase Capital’s Alana Goyal. Codecrafters, founded in 2022 by Sarup Banskota and Paul Kuruvilla, is backed by Y Combinator.
The platform is designed for developers looking to deepen their programming expertise through “Build Your Own X” projects, which involve creating tools such as a Git client, Docker, Redis, or SQLite from scratch. These projects are meant to help developers not only master programming languages but also gain insights into core concepts such as distributed systems and API design. The challenges are structured into stages with increasing difficulty, catering specifically to advanced programmers seeking practical experience.
