Claude Louis Berthollet (1748-1822) was a physician, chemist, and politician born in Talloires, which was then part of the Duchy of Savoy. He later became a citizen of France. Throughout his career, Berthollet was educated at the University of Turin. One of his doctoral students was Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac. Berthollet passed away in Arcueil in 1822.
