Carsten Stawitzki is vice admiral of the German Navy and the former head of the equipment department in the Federal Ministry of Defence.
Stawitzki studied electrical engineering at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, Germany from 1986 to 1990. He later attended Bundeswehr Command and Staff College from 1998 to 2000, where he was enrolled in its 40th Admiral Staff Officers Course.
In 2013, Stawitzki was deployed to Afghanistan as Second-in-Command ISAF Regional Command North. From 2013 to 2016, he was a commander at Naval Academy Mürwik. From 2016 to 2018, he was a commander at Bundeswehr Command and Staff College. In April 2018, he was appointed head of the equipment department within the Federal Ministry of Defence. This included his change in status to vice admiral of the German Navy. Stawitzki has a long history with the Federal Ministry of Defence beginning in 2005, where he was an officer in the Armed Forces Command Staff in Staff Department VI Bundeswehr Planning until 2006. He continued to hold the same position, but in Staff Department IV Logistics until 2008. Stawitzki was then deputy adjutant of the Federal Ministry of Defence from 2008 to 2010, then adjutant until 2013.
