August Kundt (born August Adolph Eduard Eberhard Kundt) was a German physicist born on November 18, 1839, in Schwerin. He held German citizenship and was a well-known figure in the field of physics. Kundt was educated at the Humboldt University of Berlin, ETH Zurich, and Leipzig University.
Throughout his career, Kundt mentored several doctoral students who went on to make notable contributions in their respective fields. Among his mentees were Walther Rathenau, Wilhelm Röntgen, Karl Ferdinand Braun, Hermann Theodor Simon, Friedrich Paschen, Pyotr Lebedev, Max Wien, Emil Warburg, Heinrich Kayser, Franz S. Exner, and Wilhelm Hallwachs.
Heinrich Gustav Magnus was a significant influence on Kundt, serving as his doctoral advisor during his time at university.
August Kundt passed away in Lübeck on May 21, 1894.
