OpenAI investors include MicrosoftMicrosoft, Reid Hoffman’s charitable foundation, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global Management, Bedrock Capital, and Andreesen Horowitz. In July 2019, Microsoft partnered with OpenAI to support the company's AGI research and development. This included a $1 billion investment from Microsoft, a partnership to develop a hardware and software platform for Microsoft Azure which will scale to AGI, and Microsoft becoming OpenAI's exclusive cloud provider. In September 2020, Microsoft also announced it had partnered with OpenAI to exclusively license its language model GPT-3. Microsoft made a second investment in OpenAI in 2021, although details were not released.

The Potatoz is a collection of 9,999 utility-enabled PFP NFTs that feature rarity-powered traits inspired by internet memes and pop culture. Each Potatoz features a distinctive potato character with its own set of characteristics, such as clothing, accessories, and backgrounds. The main goal of the project is to build a community of Potatoz collectors and enthusiasts, with various rewards and benefits for NFT holders. It was launched as a free mint in June 2022 and became a top 150 OpenSea collection in less than 69 days.

The concept for The Potatoz was initially developed in early 2021 by a group of artists and developers who were intrigued by the potential of NFT as a new form of art and collectibles. The team spent several months creating the individual designs and features for each of the 9,999 Potatoz characters, as well as constructing a website and platform for the Potatoz community to engage and interact with one another.
