A play-to-earn gaming model allows game players to earn cryptocurrency and/or NFTs while playing. One of the most popular play-to-earn games that Yield Guild Games supports is Axie Infinity. Axie Infinity is a virtual battle game similar to Pokémon where the player trains and fights using virtual NFT characters called axies. Axies at higher levels have more in-game value, and can be sold to other players for money. Players can also earn in-game tokens called Smooth Love Potions and Axie Infinity Shards that they can cash out on cryptocurrency exchanges. The game is not free-to-play and requires the purchase of three axies upon registration. Due to the wildly fluctuating price of the website's payment method of the cryptocurrency Ethereum, axies can cost up to several hundred dollars each as of late 2021. However, players have widely reported that they were able to make up the initial value of their investment within three months or less of regular playing. Yield Guild Games also supports the play-to-earn games League of Kingdoms, F1 Delta Time, and The Sandbox.
