The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a public higher education institution located in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. It was founded on January 1, 2005, and is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training of South Africa. UJ operates in the fields of education and university, and has been granted six patents.
The university has affiliations with several associations, such as the Association of African Universities, Universities South Africa, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. UJ has two known subsidiaries: University of Johannesburg men's basketball and University of Johannesburg Prize.
Its motto is "Diens Deur Kennis" in Afrikaans, which translates to "Service Through Knowledge" in English. Additionally, the university has adopted a slogan, "The Future. Reimagined.".
As an educational institute and organization, UJ is also known by its nickname "UJ".
